How do you know if your compensation expectations are realistic? Ask a recruiter! Most recruiters work across a variety of industries, as well as functional roles, so they’re a good source for this kind of information.

It pays to build a relationship with a recruiter you respect, since it will enable you to stay up-to-date on career opportunities and also be aware of new developments in career management and hiring. It will also make you more likely to be at “top of mind” when that recruiter is looking for someone with your skills and knowledge.

It’s not necessary to contact recruiters regularly “just to say hello”, but do keep them posted of any changes to your role, career objectives or personal information.
